This page shows other experiences related to my work that slightly affect on my ideas and sometimes immensely on them.

Japanese-style Painting

Before studying UAL, I’ve learned Japanese-style painting in Tokyo University

of the Arts. The materials, as is animal skin glue, pigments, metal leaf, China ink

and washi and so on, formed my basic skill and process. It mainly spreads around

East Asia and it often uses in art conservation. It uses animal skin glue, that

requires the severe balance of amounts between water and glue, which can

control a viscosity of paints to be sticky or loose for a ratio of them. Pigments

have a various size of particles. Those factors lead me to carefully think about

how to construct of layers and a composition and care about the colour because

mixing many pigments on a surface gets more muted. The thick layers of

pigments likely gets some cracks and a high percentage of glue causes to stain or

to have a waterproof on a surface, which would hugely affect on a next process.

While the pigments easily come off owing to the low percentage. They are really sensitive materials. So, it tends to prefer putting rough particles on the bottom layers to strongly strengthen a base of the painting. Therefore, It needs the techniques and the knowledge at a high level of it. That influences on my theoretical and intellectual thoughts that I carefully make a plan and prepare the drawing as a same size of the painting to decide the composition and how to progress. Acrylic or oil paints, in contrast, a painter can intuitively put it on a surface. While it can make unique textures such as you can take advantage of the difference of pigment sizes or it can wash them off. It is suitable for decorative techniques and paintings to combine metal leafs. It was seen as interiors like Byōbu (屏風) or Fusuma (襖) which used to separate a private space or rooms and it has finally synthesized with the style of paintings from the Western culture after Meiji era, this process has gradually converted the idea of paintings in Japan from a part of interiors to the expression of art.
Furthermore, to enroll Tokyo University of the Arts it requires traditional and realistic skills at a high level with a pencil and water colours as a substitute for Japanese-style paintings. I had cultivated a basic ability of drawing and painting for three years. they lead me to develop not only the skills, but also flexible thinking and a way to see subjects to complete the work in a short time. Therefore, the academic skills has ever supported in my art theory and practice.

Snow Mountain

I'm going to show about my impressive memories for travels that sometimes suggest me to develop new worlds or ideas. A snow mountain that is my memorable event is named Kurofu-yama (黒斑山) where I have climbed a snow mountain for the first time, and that experience is just once as of now. However, that day is hard to forget for me. While climbing I was afraid it had a risk of slipping down to the bottom, but even if it was, still there is quite beautiful snow landscapes. Now, this experience reminds me to that feeling every so often. It clearly shows me that contrast of impression between the nature and myself. I was fatigued, scary and a hard work, but the nature is still, majestic and calm. Whereas it also gives me such negative feelings in a way. I think, that interaction has made my ideas clear and it would underlie in the concept of my work.

City park in London

The inspiration of my artworks is mainly based on the scenery at London, particularly at city parks. The ideas often come out during walking around my place, it quickly response my sense of feeling to the environment and the state of my mind at that time. Therefore, the artworks naturally connect to my daily life as a visual diary. The negative feelings always interfere with that visual image. The majestic nature in front of me turns into the intimate and private scenery through the pure observation. It is nothing to do with the idea and the intention for the work before appearing the good views or the imagination in my mind. I should wait for that.
